Caring for Carrot Plants

Carrots thrive in a very sunny location with lots of direct sunlight. Younger carrot plants require lots of watering, but as they age and their root systems develop, they gain some drought tolerance and don't require so much attentive watering.

Grown carrots can temporarily withstand extreme highs and lows, but thrive in the cooler spring and autumn days. Long winters may be especially bad for plant health, so don't hesitate to contact us and ask about overwintering your plants and returning them to you in the spring!

Carrots are typically ready when you can see the top of the orange carrot poking through the soil, this is called the shoulder. Another indicator is when the green leaves of the carrot plant are lush and saturated.

When you're ready to harvest, water the soil and then gently pull on the carrot stems to work them out. If the soil is too compacted, you may need to use a garden tool to loosen the earth and gain access.
